When is the deadline for registration?

Early registration ends July 23, 2010.  All cyclists who register before the 23rd will receive a decreased registration fee in the amount of $25.00.  The registration fee increases to $30.00 on July 24th. 

 

How do I register for Spin Your Wheels?

 

You may register online through Active.com.  Registration forms are also available on The Children’s Center campus and at several local bike shops and fitness centers.  Cyclists may also register at The Children’s Center on Tuesday, August 10th – Friday, August 13th from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, or on the morning of the ride (August 14th) beginning at 6:00 am. 

 

 

When may I pick up my registration packet?

Registration packets may be obtained at The Children’s Center beginning Tuesday, August 10th through Friday, August 13th between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.  Registration packets may also be obtained the morning of Spin Your Wheels in the registration area beginning at 6:00 a.m.

 

What is included in my registration packet?

Your registration packet will include your Spin Your Wheels t-shirt, bib number, safety pins and a map of the course for which you have registered.  Registration packets also include exclusive discounts and merchandise generously offered by Spin Your Wheels sponsors.

 

Where can I park the morning of Spin Your Wheels?

Parking will be available across the street from The Children’s Center, on the north side of NW 39th Expressway in the Bethany First Church of the Nazarene parking lots.  Additional parking will be available in the First Baptist Church of Bethany parking lot on Mueller Avenue. 

 

What is the start time?

Our 100-mile cyclists will depart first, with a start time of 7:00 a.m.  Approximately four to five minutes will separate the departure of each group of cyclists (12, 26, 52, 62 and 100-mile groups).

 

Are courses closed to vehicular traffic?

No, all Spin Your Wheels courses will be open to vehicular traffic.  Cyclists must obey all traffic laws.  Officers from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the El Reno Police Department will patrol all courses throughout the tour to insure the safety of participants.  All cyclists participating in Spin Your Wheels must wear a helmet.

 

What type of terrain may I expect throughout the course?

All courses occur on public roads.  The 12, 26, 52 and 62-mile courses are relatively flat.  The final portion of the 100-mile course includes a few steep hills. A course map for the 26-100 mile distances may be obtained here.   Click here for a map of the 12-mile course. 

 

Is it possible for my child to participate in Spin Your Wheels?

Certainly!  Spin Your Wheels includes cyclists at all levels of ability.  Any participant under the age of 18 must submit a disclaimer signed by a parent or guardian.  We do not encourage children to ride unattended.  It is strongly advised that children be accompanied by an adult.

 

What is the cut-off time for 100-mile cyclists?

All 100-mile cyclists must reach the 40-mile mark by 10:45 a.m. or will be re-routed.  This is a new policy for this year’s tour, and has been implemented for the health and safety of our participants.

 

What time will the courses close?

All courses will close at 3:30 p.m.  Any cyclists remaining on the course at that time will be given the option of being transported to The Children’s Center campus by a SAG vehicle, or finishing the course on their own without the presence of SAG vehicles, rest stops or police support.

 

Where are the rest stops located?

Rest stops are located approximately every 10 -13 miles.  Each rest stop will be staffed by friendly volunteers and will include portable toilets, food and beverages.

 

Will Support and Gear (SAG) vehicles be on-hand during the ride?

Yes.  The health and safety of participating cyclists are our top priorities.  We will have several SAG vehicles assigned to specific areas of each course.  Each vehicle will include necessary equipment for minor bike repair, basic first-aid supplies, food and beverages.

 

What if I am unable to complete my course?

Support and Gear (SAG) vehicles will be able to transport you back to The Children’s Center, if needed.  EMSA will be on-site throughout the ride should medical attention be required.

 

Will lunch be available?

Yes, lunch will be served to cyclists just past the Finish Line on The Children’s Center campus.Subway is generously providing complimentary sandwiches for this year’s ride.  In addition to various meat options, vegetarian sandwiches will also be available.   The Pops mobile kitchen will also be on-site, selling hamburgers, french fries, onion rings and sodas.  Prices range from $1-$4.  Additional snacks and beverages will be available as well.

 

How does Spin Your Wheels benefit The Children’s Center?

All funds raised through Spin Your Wheels directly benefits the pediatric patients at The Children’s Center.  Funds raised will help to meet the immediate needs of the patients.  The Children’s Center is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit hospital that provides 24-hour medical and nursing care, rehabilitative and respiratory therapies, and education to children with complex medical and physical disabilities.  For more information about The Children’s Center, please visit www.tccokc.org.
